Ultra Electronics PMES has been a UK leader in the supply of high quality dc power systems for traction applications for over 50 years. Previously marketed under the ‘Foster’ and ‘THORN EMI’ brand names, equipment has been supplied to Network Rail (formerly Railtrack), London Underground and many overseas transit authorities.

Research
The Research Department has been developing innovative solutions in the arena of electromagnetics for over 15 years . From the start the research group has been closely involved in sensor and range product development from initial concept through to design, implementation and support. Ultra Magnetics are world leaders in vessel signature modelling and prediction. Magnetic dipole modelling algorithms were first developed in 1984, followed by complementary work in the field of vessel design using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in 1989.

The Ultra Electronics self-contained Navigation System is capable of maintaining and distributing data for the safe navigation of the ship on the basis of on-board and external navigation aids, contributing to a reduced level of manning.
